The Honorable Mike Pompeo
Secretary of State
United States Department of State
2201 C Street
Washington, D.C. 20520 cc. Representatives; Curbelo, Diaz-Balart
Ros-Lehtinen, Sires
Dear Secretary Pompeo,
The Union of Cuban Former Political Prisoners, EE.UU. North East Zone (UEPPC) hereby express our concurrence and full support with the request and concerns set forth by Representatives; Curbelo, Diaz-Balart, Ros-Lehtinen, and Sires as communicated via their letter addressed to you on the 26th of April 2018.
On his first State of the Union address President Trump stated “My administration has also imposed tough sanctions on the communist and socialist dictatorships in Cuba and Venezuela,”. Previously, the president restricted travel to, including the end of people-to-people visas, and business with Cuba consequence of his campaign promises as well as the attack on U.S. Diplomats in Cuba.
It is no secret that many in the Media and the Arts have long idolized Cuba’s Castro’s Clan’s communist cabal without much regards for the populace’s suffering and the destabilization of a large portion of the American Continent. An outcome being a significant catalyst of the witnessed illegal migration to our country that has resulted in tremendously burdensome financial and social costs for the American tax payers and priceless suffering for the populace of the affected region.
The Kennedy Center’s action is not an isolated case, but a behavior consistent with the Castro Clan loving mindset, difficult to justify otherwise. Our nation is rich with Cuban culture and performers at all levels of the artistic spectrum including many world renown performers, particularly in southern Florida and the Metropolitan New York Area,. This abundance negates justification to import Cuban nationals to expose the Kennedy Center’s audience to Cuban rhythm and dance unless off course the desire is to provide a forum for their ideology and a source of capital to help sustain the dictatorship.
It should be recognize and remembered that every dollar which these performers take back to the Castro’s coffers represents a tear in Cuba’s mother’s eyes for it further solidifies the choke hold that the dictatorship has on the populace.
Secretary Pompeo, we respectfully ask that President Trump’s promises be adhered to, that it be remember that these artists are ambassadors of a socialist dictatorship, and that their mission does not benefit our society, the contrary being true. We ask that said visas be suspended and that inflow of propagandists from Cuba be curtailed.
Respectfully yours,
José A. Gutiérrez-Solana Aurelio Candelaria
Secretary President
